FROM FLAG PROGRAM DIRECTOR DOUG D’OLIMPIO
Hello everyone,
What a terrific turnout (30-40 kids) for football yesterday! Frankly, I was caught by surprise and that's a good thing. We are very excited and energized by all who have come out. If you know anyone else that wants to participate - it's NEVER too late.
The first round of jerseys have been ordered and I can only cross my fingers that FedEx will be here by the weekend with it being the Labor Day holiday. Remember, later registrants can still order jerseys.
The storm in the sky and the storm of people made it difficult to address everyone that showed. I will make it a point to meet each of you this Sunday. It's important that you meet the people coaching your kids.
Lots of important news and info:
- We will have a photo release form available on Sunday to ask permission to put up photos of the kids in action on our Facebook page. Dave Gwatkin is setting up a Facebook page for Lyndon Flag Football and photos would be a great addition to that.
- We will also have a liability waiver form from the NFL that they request parents sign as part of the NFL program
- We recommend that players have a mouthpiece while playing - though this is non-contact flag football, players do run/bump into each other and fall down - a mouthpiece is an important piece of equipment.
- Also, for those registered in the program, we will be hosting an NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick
competition on Sunday, September 25 @ 1:30 pm following our normal play period. More on this event to come. There will be no additional charge to participate in this event. So, pack a lunch and do the Sun Dance for the 25th.
- We have also teamed up with Head Coach Dan Nolan and the Lyndon Institute football squad to have high school players work with the kids each Sunday afternoon.
- It would be great to rustle up a few more 10 and up players and fill out that part of the program. If you know anyone that might be interested tell them to come and try it out. Junior Vikings Jayden Weed and Ethan Cole-Whitehouse made a visit on Sunday and it would be great to have them back. And Drew Dudas made a celebrity appearance at our indoor day last week.
- Lastly, there is a role for everyone - if you want to get involved in some capacity, let's make it happen. The first job of anyone involved in running a volunteer organization is to find your successor.
Enough for now,
Doug
